Endoscopy

What Symptoms Prompted You to Go to Your Doctor?

I was symptomless. My doctor suggested an endoscopy as I was having a colonoscopy.

Living with Barrett's Esophagus

Living with Barrett's has been tricky. I have given up eating the best things in life such as spices, tea, Diet Coke, chocolate, Mexican and Indian foods, etc. Also, having to time my meals rather than eat whenever I feel I need to or want to is rather inconvenient. It has taken some getting used to sleeping with the head of my bed raised. But I lump all of the changes I've had to make together and compare them to death and it doesn't seem like too much of an imposition.

Advice

  • Honestly, I wish I knew more about the disease, which is why I'm here at this blog. I've had an inverse reaction to antacids and went into hyper-acidity when on them. This is baffling. However, even more baffling, is why I was put on them in the first place since I was symptom free. I understand that the assumption is that acid reflux causes Barrett's disease but could there be another cause we're overlooking?
