Salisbury Steak with Fettuccini

I love Salisbury steak, but for a long time didn't eat it because some of the ingredients were heartburn triggers for me. With the following recipe, however, I can once again enjoy this dish. With the low fat ingredients, it's heartburn-friendly while still being tasty.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pound extra-lean ground beef (at least 90% lean)
  • 1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons beef-flavored granules, divided
  • Dash of salt
  • Nonstick vegetable cooking spray
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup mushrooms
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz fettuccini noodles, cooked without salt or fat, prepared according to package directions
Preparation:
  • Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, 1 teaspoon beef granules, and salt in a bowl.
  • Mix well and then form into 4 patties.
  • Spray a skillet with nonstick vegetable cooking spray, and place over medium-high heat.
  • Add beef patties, and cook 4 to 6 minutes on each side, or until done.
  • Remove patties from pan and set aside.
  • Add vegetable oil and mushrooms to skillet, and cook 3 to 5 minutes until just tender.
  • Combine water, remaining beef granules, cornstarch and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Mix well and add to skillet.
  • Cook 2 to 3 minutes or until thickened.
  • Pour mushroom sauce over cooked beef patties, and serve with warm fettuccini noodles.
