Heartburn-Friendly Beef Recipes

Updated July 03, 2014

You may have thought you couldn't eat beef if you suffered from heartburn. While you may need to select leaner cuts of meat and very lean ground beef, it is possible to enjoy those beef recipes without having to worry about heartburn. The recipes here are heartburn-friendly, because fat is sometimes a heartburn trigger; the leaner meats and the low-fat ingredients cut down on the fat content.

Beef and Mushroom Stroganoff
Lean beef sirloin, low-fat ingredients and pasta prepared without added fat turn an old favorite recipe into a heartburn-friendly dish.

Beef and Vegetable Stir-Fry
This recipe uses a minimal amount of vegetable oil, so you won't have to worry about heartburn that's triggered by regular frying. The recipe is also adaptable, allowing you to add more vegetables or substitute those listed here for a few of your own favorites.

Beef Loaf
Many meatloaf recipes call for catsup or tomato sauce, and onions. If you're like me, tomato-based products and onions trigger my heartburn. Also, if the ground beef is too fatty, heartburn can occur. If you omit the heartburn-triggering foods and use very lean ground beef, you can enjoy meatloaf again!

Beef Strips and Pasta
Lean beef sirloin can be safe for heartburn sufferers to eat because of the lower fat content. Pasta is also a good choice: If the pasta isn't high in fat and no fat is added in the preparation, it is delicious with the beef strips without the risk of causing heartburn.

Broiled Burgers with Mushrooms and Rice
Using very lean ground beef (sometimes ground sirloin is even leaner) and broiling instead of frying make these burgers heartburn-friendly. Also, the recipe calls for low-fat ingredients for the ground beef mixture. Some individuals can suffer from heartburn if the fat content of a meal is too high.

Grilled Marinated Flank Steak
This recipe is easy to prepare, and because it's grilled, you won't have to worry about triggering heartburn as with frying. Also, choosing a lean flank steak or trimming excess fat will be beneficial if a higher fat content triggers your heartburn.

Meatballs with Pasta
You may think you can't have meatballs if you suffer from heartburn. Using only lean ground beef and cooking without added fat can help you enjoy meatballs without the heartburn.

No Tomato Sauce Beef Pizza
If you enjoy pizza but don't like the heartburn that sometimes follows, try this heartburn-friendly version. If fatty foods or tomato-based products trigger your heartburn, the lean ground beef, low-fat cheese and no tomato sauce make this pizza recipe safe for most heartburn sufferers.

No Tomato Sauce Lasagna
Love lasagna but tomato-based products trigger your heartburn? Try this recipe for lasagna that will be keep you from the acid reflux.

Salisbury Steak with Fettuccini
Salisbury steak that is premade can be a heartburn trigger for me. With the following recipe, however, I can once again enjoy this dish. With the low-fat ingredients, it's heartburn-friendly while still being tasty.

Swedish Meatballs
Most swedish meatball recipes usually contain fatty beef and lots of sour cream. This recipe is heartburn-safe, because turkey is substituted for the beef and fat-free sour cream is used.

Vegetable Beef Stew
I love beef stew, and most stews are fairly safe for heartburn sufferers to eat. That is, as long as it doesn't contain any of your heartburn trigger foods. Stick with lean stew meat and a few vegetables, and avoid the onions and tomato-based products.
