Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)

Definition: A spiral-shaped bacterium found in the stomach. H. pylori damages stomach and duodenal tissue, causing ulcers. Previously called Campylobacter pylori.
Pronunciation: HELL-uh-koh-BAK-tur py-LOH-ree
