When Were You Diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus?

What Tests Were Used to Diagnose You?

endoscopy with biopsy

What Symptoms Prompted You to Go to Your Doctor?

Mild mid-epigastric pain. Bothersome but not particularly painful. I've never had reflux, chest pain, night cough or anything like that which is why this is all so confusing. At first I thought I was lactose intolerant and I went off milk products. That worked for a few months but then all the same symptoms came back. Finally had an endoscopy and the doctor saw esophagitis and erosive gastritis.

Living with Barrett's Esophagus

I just don't understand why this happened, I'm only 24 and I've never had typical reflux symptoms. The doctor said there was no evidence of dysplasia and that it can regress but I'm worried about being diagnosed with this condition so young. I feel like my chances of getting cancer are so much higher now. Since I'm not really symptomatic I don't really know what to avoid. The doctor put me on Nexium and that's definitely helped with the pain. But if I was never really that symptomatic I'm not really sure if it's helping or not
