Definition: PH is a measure of a substance's acidity. The pH test measures how often and for how long stomach acid enters the esophagus, and how well it clears the esophagus.
The pH procedure is done with a thin, plastic tube with a sensor that measures the pH of the fluid in the esophagus. This procedure is often done when GERD symptoms are present but an endoscopic exam doesn't detect any evidence of reflux disease.
Pronunciation: PEE-h test
Also Known As: Esophageal pH Test, Esophageal pH Test - 24 hour, Twenty-four hour pH Test
