Definition: Medicines that protect the stomach lining from acid. Examples are sucralfate (soo-CRAL-fayt) (Carafate), misoprostol (MIH-soh-PROH-stawl) (Cytotec), antacids (Mylanta and Maalox), and bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol).
