Definition: This is a small, flexible tube with a light and a lens on the end. It is used to look into the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, colon, or rectum. A doctor can also use the endoscope to take a tissue sample for testing or to take color photographs. Colonoscopes and sigmoidoscopes are two types of endoscopes.
