Definition:

Calcium channel blockers are medications that prevent calcium from entering the cells of the heart and blood vessels. Calcium channel blockers have an immediate effect on reducing blood pressure. They work by relaxing and expanding the blood vessels, allowing blood to pass through more easily.

For some patients, taking calcium channel blockers may cause heartburn.
