Gastroparesis

The stomach contracts to empty itself of food and liquid, contracting about three times a minute and emptying within 90-120 minutes after eating. With gastroparesis, the contractions are sluggish or less frequent, and stomach emptying is delayed. Gastroparesis is most often a complication of type 1 diabetes. At least 20 percent of people with type 1 diabetes develop gastroparesis. It also occurs in people with type 2 diabetes, although less often.
