Lisa's Story

Tuesday April 24, 2007
"I have acid reflux also and I take prescription Pepcid 20 mg x 2. I use to take Nexium but that depleted my iron so I had to get off of it. I still suffer with my reflux. I have to take a Tums on some days because of the feeling I get in my chest. I do not know if anyone else gets this feeling. It feels like something is being flushed up and down. It gives me a panic feeling. I hate having reflux you can't enjoy chocolate or a good diet coke without having to pay for it later. Does anyone have some good suggestions that will help with how I feel. I am up for some."

Points to Remember:
While food isn't always a trigger for heartburn, the majority of patients do state eating certain foods is sure to cause heartburn. Sometimes this means we have to avoid eating some foods we love, but we can still enjoy mealtime with some safe alternatives. If you are not sure which foods trigger your heartburn, you can try keeping a record of what you eat, and any symptoms that may occur afterwards, for a week or two. If you've eaten several foods during a meal and don't know which one triggered your heartburn, you can re-introduce each food one at a time into your diet to determine which one is causing the heartburn. To help with meal planning, you can check out the list of most often safe foods for heartburn sufferers, and foods to avoid. You may also want to check out some heartburn-free menu suggestions.

Lisa,
I have that same feeeling!! I was so scared, went to the doctor & described it, feeling like I had something caught in my throat/chest & he diagnosed reflux! The Nexium has been working, but I forgot it yesterday, and right away it came back & today again. I think it takes a few days to work? I hate this! Turning 40 has really changed me!
