Do you take over-the-counter meds because your insurance won't pay for prescriptions?

As more over-the-counter remedies for heartburn become available, more health insurance companies are not approving prescription remedies. This can be a problem for those patients where it appears only the prescription remedies will work for them.

What has been your experience? Please take the poll below and let us know?

1.) Yes, and the O-T-C remedy doesn't work!

2.) Yes, but the O-T-C remedy works ok.

3.) No. Fortunately my insurance still pays for it.

I find that drinking a dr. Pepper with my meals aids digestion and prevents acid reflux! When I do have GERD I take Pepcid, Zantac or 1/2 tsp baking soda in 1/2 cup water to relieve the symptoms.
