Forum Post: "Side effects from meds?...Could it be?"

"Has anyone had any of the side effects listed on the patient information sheet? My 16 year old daughter was put on protonix and zantac for acid reflux disease with the hope that it would also help her asthma. She lost 15 lbs, couldn't eat without pain, asthma got worse, nosebleeds that required ER, menstrual problems, and sinusitis which is being treated with antibiotic. I have stopped the meds and she is starting to feel better. I really would like to hear if anyone has ever had these symptoms from taking acid reducing meds. When I questioned the doctor, they got very condescending and said all drugs have side effects...take TUMS then! How's that for help?"

I was told by many pharmacists, that with anymedicine… someone could have an adverse reaction. My son has been on zantac, now on prevacid and reglan. He now has an ulcer. They said it is not strong enough. He was also started getting recently the worse asthma and sinusitis. But remember he was getting that ,becuase is 1. He is getting older now and his acid production is very high. They might be putting him on protonix this week actually. Maybe your daught had a reverse reaction. or was it strong enough. ps- proton pump inhibitors seem to block iron. Iron somewhat helps clot the blood. Hince if it is blocking her iron, she has thin blood. More bleeding at mens time and worse nosebleeds.
